Rethymno beaches

Agios Pavlos, Rethymno

On the main road of Rethymno to Agia Galini you will find the signs which will drive you to Agios Pavlos. A very beautiful bay. Quite, not so many tourists are there.
There is also parking place at the beach and you can have a sun lounger and umbrellas. There is a small beach tavern when you can taste traditional food.
At the eastern end of the beach on top of the rock you can have a wonderful view over the bay with its unique clear water. There are also daily excursion boats from Agia Galini to the beach of Preveli.

It is located about 3 Km east of Plakias.
Further east are two smaller, beautiful bays, which can be reached in a few minutes by foot or by car but the road is not good . It is better to leave the car on the asphalt road and to walk the rest. The first bay is the ‘’pig bay’’.  The second bay  ( Mikro Ammoudi ) lies directly behind it, separated only by a rock tongue. A little further to the east is Amoudi Beach, more easily reached via the paved road from Lefkogia.

For a long time Plakias with its beautiful long sandy  beach was a real secrete tip among the backpackers, who had discovered the special small coastal village. At the western end of the bay, surrounded by impressive mountain, there were a few houses and one or perhaps 2 tavernas.  The still beautiful beach and the impressive landscape all around, remained, but the Plakias itself was ‘’ discovered ‘’ . The number of Tavernas has increased enormously, hotels and new apartment buildings have grown in large numbers.  The place is now also bookable flat, but still a beautiful spot of Crete. Only the Kotsifou canyon can be disturbed by the wind, but it is also a popular surfing spot.
