St. John Kapsa

It is located on the road to Goudouras village , east of Ierpatra City.
The monastery is situated at the mouth of Perivolakia Gorge.
Its full name is the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Kapsa (St John Kapsa) and it is a dependency of Toplou Monastery near Vai and Sitia.
The monastery has an amazing view over the Libyan Sea and Koufonissi Island opposite.
Kapsa Monastery celebrates its feast-day on 29 August, the Decollation of Agios Ioannis Baptist.
Thousands of faithful come from various parts of Crete to attend the great festival, even coming on foot from nearby villages an cities.
Τhere must be the appropriate clothing if you want to enter the monastery.
Visit hours: 06:30-12:30 and 15:30-19:00.

Moni Toplou

Toplou Monastery is a famous monastery on the eastern side of Crete, located 10km east of Sitia, and 6 km north of Palekastro of Sitia. The monastery has been renovated and has been restored many times and is said to be one of the most remarkable Cretan monasteries. It is the only monastery which survived of the monasteries that once existed in the area of Sitia and destroyed by the liberation wars and looting by pirates.

One of Crete’s most historic monasteries, Faneromeni Monastery is situated on a slope overlooking the Minoan city of Gournia near Ierapetra City.
The original building was probably erected during the second Byzantine period.
The catholicon is built in a cave and is dedicated to the Dormition of Mother Mary and to the Life-Giving Font; according to tradition, the spring inside the church is said to be miraculous.

Agios Georgios Monastery, located in Selinari gorge, was built during the 2nd Byzantine era. The catholicon is dedicated to Saint George.
The icon of Saint George, the protector of travellers, is considered to be miraculous and is a traditional destination for worship for passers-by.

The monastery is located on the eastern edge of the hill Gournos, south of village Krousonas. It was destroyed by the Turks in 1822. All monks were put to death in Trochalakas , because it was a refuge for revolutionaries. In 1944 it began its construction and after some years it began again to work with a few nuns.

The monastery is located 48km southwest of Heraklion and 3km north of Zaros village.
Now the monastery is a new modern building. It is worth to visit the old church of St. Nicholas, with the frescoes of the 14th century.
Nearby, you can also visit the old cavernous church of St. Efthimios, with many frescoes and an inscription of 1438.

It is located in Village Kera near Hersonissos .
Kera Kardiotissa Convent is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, as are most Cretan monasteries. This is a very old convent that became famous thanks to the 'miraculous' icon of Panagia Kardiotissa, to which reference is made in manuscripts from 1333.

It is located in Metaksochori , Archanes near Heraklion.
This is one of the largest and richest monasteries on Crete. It flourished during the era of Ottoman rule and is dedicated to Saint George.

The Holy Monastery of Arkadi is a historic monastery in Crete. The Arkadi Monastery is located 23 kilometers of Rethymnon and the first complete fortress created the last period of Venetian rule. According to legend the two-aisled church of Aghios Konstantinos and the Transfiguration was erected in 1587. Therefore it is the task of the era of Venetian rule the island.

Diskouriou Monastery is located near the traditional hamlet of Axos and served as a glebe of Halepa Monastery. It must have been in operation during the late years of Venetian Rule, as it is listed in 1630 in the list of Mylopotamos villages.

Agia Triada Monastery or the Monastery of Agia Triada Tsangarolon is a Greek Orthodox monastery in the Akrotiri peninsula in the Chania regional unit.  The monastery, which means "Holy Trinity", was built in the 17th century by two brothers of the Venetian Zangaroli family on the site of a pre-existing church. The monks produce and sell wine and olive oil on the premises.
